Lachy's 24th Birthday Bash

Hello blog readers... I'm writing a blog, and I need only your strongest attention.
I hope everyone is having a wonderful, beautiful, AMAZING day. My day so far? Thank you for asking, it's been alright, it's been fine I guess. Work has been a little bit annoying lately, lots of split shifts which means lots of bus commutes which suuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuucks. Still trying to find a bike, but haven't been as lucky as I was back in Port Macquarie. Oh well, new bikes are posted on facebook marketplace every day, so hopefully I'll find something soon.

But anyways and more importantly, a couple days ago it was
MY BIRTHDAY LETS GOOOOO

It was pretty nice :) Me and some hostel homies went on a sick walk/hike to a place called Crystal Cascades. The initial walk up to the waterfall was really easy, since it was paved all the way to the falls. BUT the waterfall had a really cool pool that you could swim in so we had a DIP in there and it was really fun. Afterwards though we found a trail and followed it up to an area called Morris Lake. eating The trail was super sick, lots of uphill on the way there, and then all steep downhill on the way back. This was easily my 2nd favorite thing I did all day. My first favorite was eating the kebab I bought afterwards, I hadn't eaten anything really the whole hike and that delicious salty wrap was heaven. Here's some pics below from the hike, easily one of the highlights of Cairns so far. The weather also ended up being PERFECT, was literally a mix of overcast and some sun all day, perfect temperature, couldn't ask for better hiking weather here in Far North Queensland :)

dancingboy dancingboy We also tried going out that night to a couple different clubs, but it ended up being a bust. The first place we went was usually pretty fun, but we had to wait in the queue for like 45 minutes which SUCKEDDDD and then when we got in it wasn't even that good, the music wasn't great, it was too crowded, not fun imo. We tried a 2nd place as well, Gilligan's, but there weren't enough people there and the music was even worse than the 1st place. Made me appreciate the hike a whole lot more in hindsight though, definitely a birthday highlight :D screw the club, go hiking with your homies instead.

Otherwise recently though, I've mostly just been working. Work work work, all work and no play makes Lachlan a funky boy and all that.dancing baby It's not really so awful, for the most part I'm getting like 25-34 hours a week, which is surprisingly liveable in Australia. My coworkers and everything are also super fun, which makes work a good time, the only really bad things is that I keep getting saddled with split shifts, where I'll work from like 11 - 3, and then have to go back for 6 - 9. Extremely unideal if you ask me, but apparently it's not busy enough to keep me around for the extra 3 hours and let me go 1 hour earlier, so split shifts it is :/

It's not terrible money though, even if I only work 24 hours a week I still get around finfin640 dollars :Ofinfin after tax for the time, including some weekend overtime (which now doing the calculations ends up being 26 dollars an hour which is like---- holy SHIT this is MINIMUM WAGE here in Queensland for restaurant work, omfg Canada take some notes) so I can't complain. Still getting 5-6 days a week no matter what so my 88 days is coming along fairly smoothly :) Should be done around Mid-late July I think, which gives me 2 full months to cruise around and do whatever TF I want in the rest of Australia , hell yeah!

eatingeating Work has been fun though, regardless of the hours. Australians are super chill, so even if you mess up an ordera bit, they'll be really nice about it, especially if it gets fixed in the end. Some fun statistics I've found in Cairns recently though, is that the later people tend to go out to eat, the more chill they are. People who go out for breakfast tend to be the most entitled, thinking that they should be able to get what they want even if realistically they shouldn't, and in some cases just getting up and not paying???? Like I don't know why, but the highest volume of people who straight up DON'T PAY is always in the mornings. (apparently this is a big problem australia-wide according to some coworkers, but it's been particularily bad here). But anyways, it only gets way better the later you get, by the time dinner comes, everyone is super duper chill, and people are genuinely the best. It's probably because of the alcohol at night to be honest, but I just think the idea that restaurant breakfast eaters are just genetically nastier people is hilarious laughin

Otherwise, lately I've just been hanging out with people around the hostel, trying to go out and do as much stuff as I can :) I've done lots of small things lately, going to the lagoon, bowling, hitting the clubs, etc. It's been a really fun time!

But unfortunately it's time to get real skullspin

just kidding lol laughin I'm doing alright, here's some photos from recent too :) (click to expand!)

Anyways that's everything for now! I can't think of anything else to type, so I hope you guys have a lovely day and love yourselves :D
