Plane Old Update + Lachlan's Hostel Reviews #4 "PodBed Sydney"

Hi there everyone! Hope you're having a lovely evening/day/morning/whatever time it is in your zone. I'm doing okay! Thank you for asking :)

So what's going on??

Honestly, not much to say here this time, and I think that's a really good thing? I've been taking it super chill in Brisbane as of recently, and I think I needed it because holy crap my legs have not felt this tired like EVER. Like, it was actively challenging for me to stand up several days in a row just from how much I've been walking/running the past month. SO I've just been taking it easy, trying to learn more game development and programming which has also been exhausting and difficult, and kinda just focusing on myself doing chill things within the lovely city of Brisbane.

...

...oh what's that, you wanted Brisbane updates?

Anyways, I'll get back to Brisbane next time. It's cool, and I wanna talk about it, just not this week.

Also it's time once again for

LACHLAN'S HOSTEL REVIEWS!

And this time we'll be discussing

PODBED SYDNEY

PodBed Sydney! The hostel that has no pod beds! This hostel was just... alright??? I GUESS? This is probably the most mid hostel I've been at, there's literally nothing good about it, but also nothing really terrible about it either? Let's get into it with:

cockroach! THE BUILDING
The building itself was pretty good? Like I said, there's nothing super appalling to complain about or wonderful to praise. The building felt relatively new and mostly well-maintained, there were the classic chips in the paint and stains on the carpet as I'd kind of expect in any hostel at this point. Ah! There we go, unfortunately it was carpeted so that was pretty yucky. It also was generally just kinda dirty, I got to see my first couple Australian cucarachas there (see the photo below for THUMB COMPARISON. Otherwise the kitchen was a decent enough size for the amount of people staying there, the layout wasn't too bad, overall it was a fairly decent, compact little place. 6/10 I'd say.

THE FACILITIES I will actually praise the facilities here! The kitchen was pretty nice and had a decent enough range of pots and pans and was cleaned regularly. There was a shared spice rack which was heavenly, and one of the people who worked for their rooms at the hostel would bring in shitty salted bar bread after their shift each night which rocked :) There was also a giant ass PS4 machine with TEKKEN 7 INSTALLED YEAH BABY so I got to goof around and practice my Panda a couple times which also rocked. The building also had a washer/dryer that only cost 4 dollars each! Which sounds terrible but the other hostels I stayed at at this point had charged at least 5 per load so this was a major win for me.
On the other side of the coin however, there's the bad stuff, yayyyyyyy!!! Like the bathrooms! So to preface, I wouldn't call the bathrooms gross necessarily. There wasn't poopoo on the walls or vomit in the sink like one review said. However, there's nothing in them that make the bathrooms good. As has become the norm, there were almost no shelves to put your belongings on when taking a shower or brushing your teeth which I still can't believe isn't standard? Like do people drunkenly rip them off the walls all the time, what's up with that? And one of the communal bathrooms had no toilet seat so I'm glad I've got a dumptruck on which to sit myself. The showers also got water all over the floors which is never niceeeeee. There were also very few of them. Anyways, facilities were a mixed bag, I'm gonna begrudgingly give the facilities a 6/10, I GUESS they were overall better than just okay.

THE STAFF/PEOPLE
The staff were not that good! Probably the worst customer service I've experienced so far, I think everyone working at the hostel while I was staying there was working for their stay, and it felt like they did not give a CRAP about anyone staying there. The other people staying there were a pretty mixed bag as well. I met some other Canadians from Saskatoon and we chatted about homeless people and stuff, and I met a couple other super nice people, including a dude from the island of Reunion in eastern Africa (never even knew it existed? super cool). I got a lot of negative vibes from some of the other people staying at the hostel, especially the frenchies for some reason? Usually they're super chill but for some reason the group of frenchies staying at PodBed wanted nothing to do with anyone. Once again this could totally also just be my mindset, but who knows, this is MY review so I say 5/10, you'll probably encounter a group of people you'll enjoy here but not everyone is nice!

LOCATION
The location of the building was nice, in an area called Potts Point. Fun fact, when I emerged from the train station late at night to walk to my hostel, the first shops/bars I saw were all "gentleman's clubs" so I literally thought I was in a redlight district LOL. I was not however, and the area ended up being really nice! It was super close to all necessary shops and transit, and was super walkable. Great! 8/10.

OVERALL
Overall gonna give PodBed a 6/10 it is just good enough! I'd recommend it only on the basis that it's less expensive than a hotel and you'll probably get to meet some cool people.

That's gonna do it for my time today though everyone, I am still TIRED and my computer is DYING, so this is all you're getting today.
Love you all, tysm for reading and have a GOOD DAY/NIGHT/EVENING/WHATEVER IDK IDC.
